The FlowBeat project (“Non-invasive portable device for home cardiac output measurement”) proposes the development of a non-intrusive and portable cardiac output measurement system for home use that can be operated by a single user without the need for assistance or medical expertise.
According to the WHO, cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world, and in developed countries, heart failure is one of the main public health problems and the only cardiovascular disease whose incidence continues to rise. FlowBeat’s proposal, with cardiac output monitoring through a home telemedicine solution, is the best option to prevent and monitor this problem by the patient himself, which has been reserved for hospital centres with sufficiently accurate devices that can only be operated by medical experts.
During the first phase of the project, the proposed haemodynamic model will be revised, and a large set of representative clinical data will be collected using both the initial prototype developed and high-precision hospital equipment. In addition, the use of different Machine Learning (ML) models will be investigated to improve and complement the studied haemodynamic model. The result will be an evolved measurement system capable of estimating cardiac output in patients with at least one valid medical measurement of cardiac output.
The organisations participating in the FlowBeat project (File No.: AEI-010500-2022b-206) are AMUEBLA (Innovative Business Group of Furniture and Related Industries of the Region of Murcia), CEIV (Cluster of Innovative Companies of the Toy Valley), CETEM (Technological Centre of Furniture and Wood of the Region of Murcia) and the companies RGB MEDICAL DEVICES and VICEDO MARTÍ. In addition, the Fundación para la Formación e Investigación Sanitarias (FFIS) of the Region of Murcia is participating in the project through the Heart Failure and Transplant Unit of the Hospital Virgen de la Arrixaca.
