International cooperation and competitiveness: The FITT-NESS project is fostering partnerships in the housing sector in Yecla

AMUEBLA played an active role in the second Twinning Action held in Yecla, an initiative designed to bring together SMEs and organisations from Spain, Portugal and Italy to foster interregional innovation.

Coinciding with the 64th edition of the Yecla Furniture Fair at the end of May, the consortium behind the European FITT-NESS project successfully carried out its second Twinning Action. This international event brought together companies and organisations from the furniture and home furnishings sector in the Region of Murcia, Portugal and Italy, with the aim of sharing objectives regarding digitalisation and sustainability, as well as opening up new avenues for commercial collaboration.

The working sessions included technical visits to companies in Yecla that are actively involved in the project: ECUS and Grupo SIM. Both firms opened the doors to their production facilities to share their management models, technological processes and their direct involvement in the initiative.

These sessions enabled the international delegation to gain first-hand insight into real-life business success stories, exchange ideas on how to tackle common industry challenges, and forge direct links aimed at building long-term business relationships.

The itinerary included a visit to the Yecla Furniture Fair, Spain’s longest-running event of its kind and an undisputed benchmark for the home furnishings sector both nationally and internationally. The tour of the exhibition space provided an opportunity to analyse the latest market trends in smart homes and inclusive environments, as well as facilitating direct contact with other manufacturers and industry professionals.

The main value of this meeting has lain in its ability to align the needs of different innovation ecosystems. AMUEBLA emphasises that these twinning initiatives are essential for strengthening the furniture value chain, driving sustainable growth and giving small and medium-sized enterprises a greater presence in the international market.

The FITT-NESS cooperation programme will come to a close this September in the Italian city of Palermo, where the final Twinning Action will take place, focusing on the definitive consolidation of commercial networks at European level.
