DTF will allow virtual furniture testing

The organisations and companies participating in the DTF project met on 6 October at Arvet’s head office to coordinate the activities that are being developed in the aforementioned project.

The main objective of the DTF – Digital Twin of Furniture project is the research and development of a constructive model of digital twins, which through a modular structure of requirements, facilitate the creation of these, offering efficient product solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Training Learning (TL) technologies from historical data of results of other analogous products.

Currently, the validation and certification of furniture products is carried out on physical prototypes that reproduce the final commercial product with total fidelity.

In most cases, this results in a delay in bringing products to the target market, as it is necessary to subject them to several cycles of trial and error, causing a significant loss of competitiveness and opportunity. Reducing this cycle through digital solutions that intervene in the early stages of product development would be a milestone for companies in the sector, leading to a significant increase in their competitive capacity.

The DTF project involves effective collaboration between the AEI Madera-Mueble de la Comunidad Valenciana (AIDIMME as the representative entity), the AEI AMUEBLA (Innovative Business Grouping of Furniture and Related Industries of the Region of Murcia), the Spanish Exporting Companies Group (ARVET), the Technological Centre of Furniture and Wood of the Region of Murcia (CETEM) and the company SANCAL DESIGN.

Based on this problem, the AEIs AIDIMME (Valencian Community) and AMUEBLA (Region of Murcia), aim to increase the existing knowledge of the technologies for carrying out simulations prior to the prototype validation phases, in order to provide designers with relevant information when developing products that comply with the applicable European regulations.

The problem addressed in DTF is located in the development phase of new products, specifically in the certification and validation of furniture products prior to their distribution on the markets.

The DTF project is financed by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, with EU Next Generation funds, within the framework of aid for Innovative Business Groups (AEI), with file number AEI-010500-2023-357.
